Hackulous repo shuts down killing Installous and AppSync in the process

Pirate or no pirate if you are into iOS jailbreaking chances are that you have already heard of the Hackulous repo (hackulo.us) and its products, the Installous app and App Sync. Surprisingly that repo and its forum is now shutting down with Hackolous team killing both of its widely used products too.

For those of you who are not familiar with Installous and App Sync, these two tools were among the main reasons of app piracy in the iOS world. Installous allowed users to download pirated versions of paid iOS applications right on their iPhone or iPad just like they would do from the App Store app. The app even enabled users to install the downloaded applications right from the device.

On the other hand App Sync was the iOS tweak that was required to be installed on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch if a user wanted to sync pirated apps downloaded from other sources than the App Store through iTunes. As the Hackulo.us repo has also been closed, pirates can no longer download the Install0us app and App Sync on their devices.

Hackulous repo team issued the following statement on its website about the shutdown

Goodnight, sweet prince.

We are very sad to announce that Hackulous is shutting down. After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town. It has become difficult to keep them online and well-moderated, despite the devotion of our staff. We’re incredibly thankful for the support we’ve had over the years and hope that new, greater communities blossom out of our absence.

With lots of love,
Hackulous Team

The reason Hackulous team has given for the closure seems odd as App piracy in the world of iOS has been growing troublesomely. Nevertheless the shutdown of Hackulous repo is a great news for developers and all of us App lovers who love great apps on our iOS devices. Piracy hurts developers who put a lot of effort and resources in creating apps for us, and not paying them a few dollars for their amazing work is sad indeed.

So… Blind. Sorry but that’s true.
Most of the apps I have purchased was because I could test them Out first. Had it not been for that I would not have bought those apps at all.
In an environment that provides little to no demos of fully functioning programs, Installous was my go-to when I needed to try out an app.

That and in addition to horrible region restrictions that made it impossible to purchase an app not in my regional store. I have contacted secs about releasing them in my local store but have not heard a prep from them. Lost sale? Pfft, please. They never cared about it.

“Piracy hurts developers who put a lot of effort and resources in creating apps for us, and not paying them a few dollars for their amazing work is sad indeed.” – Making me paying more money inside a app I have already bought hurts my money… Don’t make me pay for things I already bought and I won’t need piracy.
