Japanese automobile company Nissan has created a new case for iPhone that it says is not only scratch resistant but is also self-healing. How this case is self-healing you might wonder, well it is made from ABS plastic and Nissan has used a special paint in the production of this unique case that the company uses on many of its cars. This special paint was created by Nissan in collaboration with University of Tokya and Softmaterials Inc.
The materials that have been used in it production allows it to be very flexible. These materials not only minimize the scratches but also provide a gel-like appearance instead of the glossy one and provides a good grip to the hand .
Nissan explains how this case is ‘Self-Healing’.
The outer ‘paint’ is made from polyrotaxane, which means that when damage occurs to the coating in the form of a fine scratch, the chemical structure is able to react to change back to its original shape and fill the gap – ‘healing’ the blemish.
This case won’t be able to heal deep scratches but will do well with small ones.
Nissan unveiled this new case in an event held in Dubai and also handed over a few cases to attendees for beta testing. Nissan says that if the demand is strong then it may consider to put this case on sale later this year.
