Everything you need to know about untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2

The wait is almost over now. @pod2g has just posted the details about the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices. Absinthe the untethered jailbreak utility for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 will be available to public within ‘some hours’.

Absinthe the upcoming jailbreaking utility is developed by Chronic Dev Team whereas there are many talented brains including @saurik, @MuscleNerd, @planetbeing behind its success. A CLI (command line) tool will also be released by iPhone Dev Team to identify and repair the problems if arose using Absinthe.

According to @pod2g this utility has been tested several times with different devices to make it as smooth as possible. But this jailbreak will be using a new method to liberate your iOS devices so chances are there that new things might happen.

Here is the official list of devices supported by Absinthe:

  • iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
  • iPad 2 Wi-Fi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1

iPhone 4S users planning to carrier unlock their device should stay at iOS 5.0. They will lose the ability to unlock if updated their device to iOS 5.0.1.

A note for iPhone 4S unlockers from iPhone Dev Team:

iPhone4S owners looking to maximize their chances of achieving an eventual software-based carrier unlock should be staying at 5.0. Everyone else should be at 5.0.1. If you’re an iPhone4S owner who already updated to 5.0.1, it’s too late to go back down to 5.0, but if you’re on 9A406 it is possible to downgrade the BB by going to the 9A405 version of 5.0.1 while the window is still open.
