Official Google Search app for iOS devices has received a major update which is now available for download. The updated version of Google Search app includes Siri like voice search that is a kind of a lite version of Google Now feature of Android which was announced a few months ago. The new feature brings improved voice search experience for iOS users and returns results from Google’s search engine. The new voice search feature of Google Search app is fast, efficient and very accurate most of the times. When a user taps on the voice button present on the main screen of the app he sees a red button with mic that acts like Siri’s silver mic button. When a user has completed talking, the app detects the words and returns the appropriate results.
Google Search displays cards for queries that include weather reports, movies, sports, flight details and more. When there’s no relevant information to show or it does not recognize correctly what the user is trying to search for, it simply performs a normal Google search and displays the search result page. The app is integrated with the official Youtube app and Google Maps as well. When you say show me ‘x’ video the app automatically redirects you to the Youtube app and plays the relevant video. For maps when you say ‘how far is ‘x’ location from here’, the app opens Google Maps in Safari browser and shows you the location with route.
The voice search feature is not only a great addition to already great Google Search app for iOS but it also gives a Siri-ish experience to the owners of older devices including iPhone 4, iPad 2, and iPod touch 4th generation.
Along with adding the new Voice Search feature to its official search app Google has also made it compatible with iPhone 5 and iPod touch 5th gen.’s larger screen so it takes full advantage of the full screen real estate.
