Apple maintains its leadership and crowns the iPad as the queen of tablets

The year 2023 has been one of records for the bitten apple company. At the time, the figures for shipments and sales of mobile phones were known, and Samsung was surprised. Now it is the turn of tablets, and the feat is repeated, in a context in which the market for this product has been declining globally. But, nevertheless, Apple has managed to remain in the lead as the undisputed queen of tablets, all over the world.

This information has been known through a Canalys report, which has been echoed in the English-speaking news outlet Patently Apple. The most amazing? Despite staying ahead, the first negative data in economic terms is the decrease that Californians have experienced. Specifically, they have experienced a 24% decrease. However, this has not prevented them from crowning the iPad as the queen of the ball.

These are the figures that Apple has reaped

The figures shown in the report from the Canalys firm refer to the units shipped during the last quarter of the years 2023 and 2022. As well as the figures of the market share that it has managed to achieve.

In addition to Apple, the data from the company's other two major competitors in the field of tablets are observed: Samsung and Huawei, with whom they share a large piece of the enormous pie. A pie that, despite having decreased for Samsung and Apple, has been increasing for Huawei. Even so, despite the advance of the Chinese, the truth is that the ranking has been placed as follows:

  • First place: Apple
  • Second place: Samsung
  • Third place: Huawei

And what are the numbers of units shipped? This is the ranking made by Canalys, which they have echoed through Patently Apple:

  • Apple: 14.8 million units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2023
  • Samsung: 6.8 million units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2023
  • Huawei: 2.8 million units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2023

If we change the focus to market shares in these same periods, the three companies are left as follows:

  • Manzana: 39.2% of market share in Q4 2023
  • Samsung: 18% market share in Q4 2023
  • Huawei: 7.5% of market share in Q4 2023

If the sales figures collected for 2022 are compared, the three companies maintain the same order on the podium. However, a different scenario can be seen:

  • Manzana: 19.48 million units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2022
  • Samsung: 7.6 million units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2022
  • Huawei: 1.4 million units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2022

In terms of growth, only Huawei has seen an increase in unit numbers. Specifically, its annual increase has been 95.4%, while Apple has decreased by 24% and 10.5%. Regarding the market shares of the three companies in 2022, they were positioned as follows:

  • Manzana: 46.1% of market share in Q4 2022
  • Samsung: 18% market share in Q4 2022
  • Huawei: 3.4% market share in Q4 2022
