Do professional training with the Apple Watch

The Apple Watch is an amazing device for training

For several generations, the Apple Watch includes numerous analyzes so that we can obtain information on how the training has gone. In addition, the Apple training and health app is very simple, so you only have to configure a few steps that we detail below.

Adapt the Apple Watch to your needs

At the end of a workout, the Apple Watch shows specific metrics of the parameters that we have established in the training, however, we can customize the information that the Apple Watch shows us by following the steps below:

  1. On iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  2. Tap the My Watch tab, click Training, and then View.
  3. Tap Multiple metrics or One metric. In case you select Multiple metrics you can select up to five metrics for each workout by tapping on a workout type and then clicking Edit. You will then be able to add or remove metrics. If you select One Metric you can rotate the Digital Crown to scroll through all the metrics during a workout.

During training and especially if you have been doing sports for a short time, it is possible that you alternate periods of intense activity with periods of low activity. This exercise variation is also counted by the Apple Watch and we can indicate how:

  1. During training, double tap the screen.
  2. Wait for the segment summary to appear.

Multiply your training by combining activity

Many athletes carry out batches of different activities because they compete professionally or simply practice a health sport of a certain level. For this type of user, Apple has created the possibility of making a combined Training, in which a user can determine the exercise process to perform without having to stop to add a new parameter. In addition, it has also included the possibility of competing against yourself, where the training app determines if you are going faster than in the previous training session or how long you are ahead. The process is the following:

  • For combine several activities:
    1. Open the Workout app on your Apple Watch.
    2. Start the first part of training with a run outdoors, for example.
    3. When you want to start another activity, like cycling outdoors, swipe right, tap the Add button, then select the workout.
    4. When you’re done with all the activities, swipe right and tap Finish.
    5. Turn the Digital Crown to scroll through the results summary.
