Dynamic Island: live sports scores thanks to iOS 16.1

It’s been a little over a month since Apple announced the new iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max with a new element as well known in the world of smartphones as it is disruptive: the Dynamic Island. In it we were going to be able to find a new way to interact with our iPhone, see the status of activities in the background at the moment and, one of the most anticipated functions, have live activity information (Live Activities for Apple) as are sporting events.

These Live Activities, however and to the misfortune of all users, they did not arrive after the official launch of iOS 16 but Apple postponed it to iOS 16.1. Now, the almost immediate release of this new version of iOS confirms that the arrival of the Live Activities will reach the Dynamic Island (in addition to being able to have it on the lock screen for terminals that are not the 14 Pro and Pro Max that have the operating system update installed.

During a La Liga soccer match, we will be able to see the score of the match that we indicate in the dedicated app directly in the Dynamic Island, with updates of the goals for example live. It will also allow interaction with the scoreboard, where, for example, we can click on it and see the elapsed time or the highlights of the match.

Secondly, when we lock the device, a sticky notification will open at the bottom of the screen where we will have the score of the match, the weather or the most recent events to view them in a simple way without having to access the app. Live Activities will undoubtedly change the way we interact with our iPhone and will bring a totally new experience to the users of the Pro and Pro Max models with the Dynamic Island as the protagonist.

Currently, Live Activities can now be tested with the iOS 16.1 beta, opening the Apple TV app and clicking “Follow” any sporting event that currently supports this functionality. Right now, it is available for MLB for users from USA, Canada, Australia, UK, Brazil, Mexico, Japan and South Korea or to review NBA and Premier League for users from USA and Canada.
