Apple prepares for the new generation of CarPlay

At WWDC23 Apple presented the next generation of CarPlay with new apps, new ways of displaying content and until now we had not seen anything about the iOS code itself. However, Apple has confirmed that the first cars with this CarPlay renewal will arrive throughout 2024.

And it is that iOS 17.4 includes code for new apps, many of them shown at WWDC23. Among which are: an application to show the cameras of the car itself, another app to consult and adjust the parameters of the car's heating or air conditioning, another app to manage electrical loads if the car is electric, an opening manager and closing car doors as well as tire pressure with alerts when we have punctures, low pressure and many more.

We also have more applications like radio management within CarPlay, an overview of the trip we are taking (fuel, energy efficiency, total time, kilometers traveled, etc.) and the possibility of managing iPhones paired with CarPlay automatically.

HomePod black and white

SharePlay for HomePod

And finally, iOS 17.4 will add SharePlay support for HomePod. Thanks to this function we can create a kind of social room where guest users can control the music on the HomePod. As we have seen, this mode can be accessed by scanning a QR that will appear on the iPhone paired with the HomePod and can be controlled not only through iOS and iPadOS but other Android devices as well.
