Apple has been adding new features to Apple Podcasts for several months. One of the last new features was the automatic transcription of episodes that was introduced with the iOS and iPadOS 17.4 update. With the arrival of the first two developer betas of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, it has been discovered that Apple will introduce chapter navigation within Apple Podcasts episodes. This allows the user to navigate through an episode of their favorite podcast more quickly, just like in other apps like YouTube. We'll tell you all about it below.

Chapter navigation comes to Apple Podcasts in iOS 18

Podcasts have become one of the most important assets of content creators today. The consumption of content on different topics is already occurring through podcasts and we can see it with the rise of certain platforms dedicated to this type of content. Apple knows this and is making its Apple Podcasts app a revamped app that allows users to use it in their daily lives.

The novelty introduced in the first beta of iOS 18, and which has been known through Reddit, is the navigation through chapters, not the chapters themselves that could already be added to Apple Podcasts a long time ago. This new function, as you can see in the image that heads the article, allows the user to easily move with the playback bar between the different parts that make up a podcast episode. In this way, the user can quickly see the structure of the episode and can quickly access a specific one if they want it.

For the moment, this navigation is only available within the Apple Podcasts app itself and not from the lock screen, although it might make sense for the bar to be divided into as many parts as there are parts in the episode and for the user to be able to navigate quickly even on the lock screen. We'll see how Apple decides to move forward in the next developer betas and if it finally seems to keep the feature, although everything seems to be like this.
