Main new features of iPadOS 17
Now, let’s explore the main features and new features that iPadOS 17 brings:
Real-time information
The lock screen now keeps you up to date with what’s happening in real time with the live activities. From tracking the progress of a soccer game to checking the status of your pizza order or checking if a flight is delayed, now you can get important information from the home screen without unlocking your iPad. This is a feature that will surely sound familiar to some iPhone users.
Customize your lock screen
Another useful feature is the ability to add widgets to your lock screen. This allows us to see updated information in real time on different topics such as the weather, time, date, battery level of our devices or our calendar, all without needing to unlock the iPad.
Interactive widgets
In addition to displaying information, widgets can also be interactive. This means you can perform actions directly from a widget without having to open the app. For example, you can play music or turn off the lights by simply touching a widget on your lock screen.
FaceTime improvements
FaceTime just got even more fun with 3D augmented reality effects like hearts, confetti, and fireworks. Additionally, you can use simple gestures to share these effects live and make your conversations more original.
The Health application comes to the iPad
The Health application has arrived on the iPad with a design adapted to its larger screen. Now we will be able to have more detailed control of our health data, including reminders to take medications and menstrual cycle tracking. We may also perform standard mental health assessments to stay aware of our emotional well-being.
Improved PDF and Notes
Working with PDF documents is now more efficient in iPadOS 17 thanks to the autofill improved. Additionally, we can now view and edit PDF files directly in the Notes app. We can also link related notes to better organize our ideas and collaborate on PDF files in real time. Now the Notes application gains interesting features that will surely make users use it more often.
The Reminders App
In iPadOS 17, the ability to include sections in our reminder lists of the native Reminders App has been added. These sections offer an additional level of organization in the application. Previously, we were limited to using subtasks and lists as organizational resources.
Sections can now be displayed in list format, which is the default configuration, or in column format, depending on our preference. Personally, we find the column view more convenient for reorganizing information. Although it is also possible to rearrange in the list view, the columns option is more efficient in this regard.
Safari Profiles
Safari on iPadOS 17 offers custom browsing profiles, similar to what is already found in other browsers such as Google Chrome. This makes it easy to manage multiple profiles and browsing settings. Each Safari profile allows you to have cookies, settings and your own history so that if different people use the same device it is a good way to have separate navigation. It will also be useful for those people who want to create a space for work and another for personal use or for companies that want to configure access for their employees.
Improvements to Stage Manager or Visual Organizer
Perhaps the only feature aimed at more experienced users that has been added in iPadOS 17 is the ability to adjust the size of app windows when using Stage Manager.
Connect external webcams to your iPad
The iPad with iPadOS 17 will now also support external webcams. So if you’re using an external display that has a built-in camera, like the Apple Studio Display, you can use that camera when recording videos or participating in video calls with your favorite app; FaceTime, Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, etc.
With iPadOS 17, Apple continues to make progress in improving the user experience on its iPad devices. The new widgets, navigation optimization and improvements in FaceTime or native applications such as Notes or Reminders make this update mandatory for all those users who enjoy working, studying or performing different types of tasks with your iPad. If you have a compatible iPad, don’t hesitate to upgrade to enjoy these new features and improvements.
