Apple is known to introduce new phones and gadgets on the market at regular intervals. Due to this very reason, iPhone 6 has long been removed from the minds of the users of Apple. It was Apple’s first-ever smartphone that beat all the competing smartphones with the help of its large display in comparison. On the other hand, it has already been discontinued by the company some years back.
Nonetheless, the users of this phone still continue to receive technical support as well as security patches from the company. However, this might soon stop as well. This is mainly due to the reason that Apple has decided to categorize the iPhone as one of their ‘vintage’ products.
The Vintage Status Is Given To iPhone 6
A Twitter user named Aaron has confirmed that Apple themselves made the decision of giving the status of ‘vintage’ to the iPhone 6. The main reason behind this is that it has been under 7 years but over 5 years since the iPhone has been discontinued from distribution and sale.
In addition, Apple has been offering repair services and parts for this phone for almost 7 years now despite the fact that is no longer sold or distributed. iPhone 6 Plus has already been labeled vintage prior to iPhone 6.
Replacing Old Apple Products
Both iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 were launched on September 2014 and became out-of-date in 2019. The phone included an HD Retina display with the 64-bit A8 chip, 1GB RAM, and an 8MP rear camera. It had iOS 8 in 2014 which was later upgraded to iOS 13 before being discontinued. Apple still offers security patches for iOS 12 for smooth functioning of the device.
Recently this year, the company added a MacBook Pro Touch Bar of the first generation as another vintage product since its distribution was stopped over 7 years.
