The new mini-LED screen of the MacBook M3 will leave us speechless

On this occasion, we are going to pay attention to the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, and all the rumors about its possible update before the end of the year. This device, which already has good autonomy, could take battery life to another level and beat the game thanks to screen improvements. We tell you everything that is known so far.

According to reports from DigiTimes, the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros are about to receive an update that could revolutionize the way we use these high-end MacBooks. What is the key to this improvement? Well, surprisingly this time it focuses on a renewal of the screen.

New mini-LED screen, the key to this MacBook Pro

These devices will incorporate new mini-LEDs which are 10 percent brighter than the ones Apple currently uses. But the real innovation lies in how these mini-LEDs will affect energy consumption, and therefore, the autonomy of the device.

When the new mini-LEDs are set to the same brightness level as current mini-LEDs, they surprisingly consume less power. Mini-LED technology allows greater control over the illuminated areas of the screen, meaning they can be adjusted with precision the areas that need greater luminosity and those that do not. In this sense, Apple could choose to set the maximum brightness of the new mini-LEDs at the same level as the current ones, which would result in longer battery life.

Currently, the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro offer a 1,000 nits maximum XDR brightness sustained and 1,600 nits at peak maximum brightness, plus a maximum SDR brightness of 500 nits. This is something that users have already become accustomed to, but the promise of brighter mini-LEDs could take the user experience to a new level by improving autonomy but also the image quality on our MacBook.

Possible MacBook Pro release dates

But when can we expect to see these improved MacBook Pros on the market? According to the DigiTimes source, these laptops will be launched before the end of the year. However, other sources suggest that this device will come equipped with the new M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, which are expected to be a significant improvement over previous generations. But Apple has not yet released el M3 chip base level, which will likely be used in the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini. This brings us to a crossroads: either the MacBook Pro M3 Pro and M3 Max with the new mini-LED displays will not arrive until 2024, possibly in the spring or after mid-year, or Apple also plans to use these displays in the MacBook Air M3 and the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

However, Mark Gurman, whom we all already know, has suggested that these models could reach In the next weeks. However, so far, there is no indication that the 13-inch MacBook Air or MacBook Pro will feature mini-LED displays.

The combination of these new Apple Silicon chips plus the new mini-LED technology on the devices’ screen is what will generally make our MacBook ultra-energy efficient.
