The TouchBar on your Mac can do this and you didn’t know it

The TouchBar of the MacBook Pro has been an element that has given rise to talk from minute one of its release. And despite its benefits, in the most recent models of Mac laptops, we have not heard (almost) anything from it. However, if you have a MacBook Pro with a TouchBar, here are some things you can do to get more out of it.

The TouchBar combines with Final Cut with digital commands

If you’re someone who edits video with Final Cut, and you’re doing it on a MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar, you’ve got a ton of digital commands to complement those that can already be executed from the keyboard. In this way, you will be able to perform tasks more intuitively. Instead of using keyboard combinations, you can run commands like these:

  • 1: You can browse the entire timeline of your project directly from the TouchBar, getting a thumbnail view of the entire video structure.
  • 2: Color temperature selection is much more organic from the TouchBar, with this menu.
  • 3: Color Lightness/Darkness Selection Shortcut
  • 4: Opens the color swatches menu
  • 5: Color Swatch Palette
  • 6: Opens the spectrum and color temperatures menu
  • 7: You can import a file, create an event or a new project in Final Cut, with the press of a single button
  • 8: If we have an element selected, we can go to the beginning or end of it, without having to move with the mouse or trackpad.
  • 9: Changes the visualization of the frames, to the form of a list.

There are tons more command options on the TouchBar for Final Cut. However, here we have shown you a selection of those that can be faster, more comfortable or more organic, when they are executed through the touch bar, instead of the keyboard or mouse.

Speaking of videos, skip the ads.

A feature of the TouchBar is to have the scroll of the video player, but in a tactile way. With it, you can go forward, go back, adjust volume, etc. However, what happens when we skip an ad and the player on the screen is blocked? If you don’t have a TouchBar, you have to wait. But if you have it, during the ads this player is also activated. And, unlike the on-screen scroll (which is locked), the TouchBar scroll lets you go back and forth through the video. when the ad is played.

It doesn’t only work on pages like YouTube. But it works on all those pages that, before showing the standard player, introduce an ad and this one cannot be skipped. To skip the ad, we just have to look at the TouchBar when it is playing, click on the scroll bar and take it to the end. The ad will automatically end and the standard player (and unlocked on screen) of the video will skip. Didn’t you know? Do the test!

The classic function keys are still present

One of the big dilemmas of the TouchBar centered on the use of touch commands, instead of the classic function keys. And although the new MacBook Pros already incorporate them again, you can also recover them with the TouchBar, but digitally. To do this, you will need to set a parameter that is activated by pressing the key.

If you want to see the classic function keys, you will have to go to System Settings > Keyboard > Touch Bar Settings. Now you will have to define what you want the Touch Bar to do, when you press the key. To do this you will have to go to the “The TouchBar shows” section and select the “Function keys” option. In this way, we can continue to enjoy the functions of these keys, without giving up the comfort of more tactile and organic commands.
