Many users will think that I write in this editorial because I am hate from Apple, but it’s really not like that at all. In fact, I think I wouldn’t be able to write about any other topic other than the bitten apple because I can go more than 10 years without touching an Android or Windows and with a very closed Apple ecosystem. Today I wanted to talk to you about macOS Sonoma, one of the operating systems that has excited me the most and that is increasingly disappointing me. Keep reading and we’ll tell you everything.
It’s full of little mistakes
I would like to highlight that I have a First generation Apple Silicon, an M1 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 SSD, which we could say that we are facing the best of the best in terms of specifications that a Mac mini can have. Therefore, my disappointment with this software becomes even more when you have a device that theoretically should be perfect for the years of updates it takes and the configuration it has.
On the previous generation i.e. macOS 13 I have never reported a performance problem or any device fluidity problemeverything was going smoothly and I noticed a big jump in quality when I compared it to my 2017 MacBook Pro, a device that was entering its last year of updates and did show quite poor performance in tasks as basic as writing the slug or the meta description in this writing.
Now it seems that my beloved Mac mini is starting to report all the issues which last year was bothering my previous generation MacBook Pro. Applications as basic as Telegram or Google are not able to open them and when they are opened, they require so many resources that they affect the performance of other applications. You can say that I have applications in the background and perhaps you may be partly right, but it is what I have been doing all my life and in the previous generation it did not happen, Why in this version?
Not even with the new update does it improve
When I installed macOS 14 I thought that these problems would be resolved as several days passed or when Apple released the first macOS 14.1 update to fix small bugs.
Well, the situation It’s not that it hasn’t improved, but that it has gotten worse. One of the applications that is giving the worst performance is Safari, to such an extent that I have migrated to Google Chrome for the first time in six years because I was unable to work in this newsroom without it crashing all the time or perform a basic search by Internet. In Chrome I have never had this problem, with excellent performance and fluidity, when Safari is the most optimized web browser for Mac or so they say. Apple, I remind you that a Mac is for working.
The problems do not end here, but this is the first time in a long time that I notice that my Mac mini heats up with generic tasks, activities that not even a 2017 MacBook Pro with a dual-core i5 did. Specifically, I am referring to activities like the AI application Writer to write this article you are reading or Pixelmator Pro to do small photo retouching. Well, this morning I wasn’t even able to open them, look at what situation I’m in.
I am very surprised by this situation and I don’t know if any of you have had something similar happen to you, but what does seem clear is that this macOS Sonoma is reporting problems and the solution is not to restore the system, the solution is for Apple to stop making mistakes of software that have been repeated too much lately.
Leave me in the comments if you have also had problems with macOS Sonoma. Hopefully between the two of us we can find a solution.
